Details

Autumn is the perfect time to take a close look at trees. When trees drop their leaves you can pay attention to their structure, unique bark, and even fall flowers. Join Bradley Simpson, Restoration Manager at Audubon Naturalist Society, for a tour at Woodend.  You’ll learn about our thriving forests and types of trees that provide maximum wildlife habitats as well as clean air and water.

You will see:

  • County Champion Trees—the largest trees of a given species in Montgomery County;
  • Trees with distinctive features such as “elephant skin” bark, jumping jack branches or cat-shaped leaves; and
  • Native trees whose sap has antiseptic properties, and whose Vitamin C-rich needles are used for tea.

Restoration Manager, John Bradley manages the restoration of Woodend’s natural habitats. He has conducted urban forest research in New York City and at Woodend, categorizing thousands of plants. He has a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of Maryland. He is working toward a Masters degree to further his knowledge of urban forest ecology.
