Woodend, the Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) nature sanctuary at 8940 Jones Mill Road is a neighborhood landmark. Maybe you’ve driven by, walked the trails accessed from the back gate on Brierly Road or attended an event in the mansion and wanted to know more.
If so, join Alison Pearce, ANS deputy director, and learn about the history of Woodend and its historic mansion. Learn about the many classes and field trips for adults, family hikes, and nature-focused classes for children. Pearce supervises ANS program managers and volunteers and oversees work to improve meadow, forest, and stream habitats.
Pearce has a 20-year history in conservation work dating back to her experience as an agroforestry volunteer with the Peace Corps in El Salvador. She earned a Ph.D. in ecological anthropology at Stanford University where she studied ranchland conversion in Montana, as well as indigenous forest management in Panama.
