Home Repair and Other Services
There are numerous plumbers, electricians, HVAC specialists, etc. who service the NCC area. You might want to subscribe to Washington Checkbook, a quarterly ad-free publication that regularly rates a host of service providers, somewhat akin to a localized Consumers’ Reports. You might also get on the NCC Connections Listserv and query the membership. You will likely get one of more responses, many of them probably promptly.

Gas Stations and Auto Repair
There are three gas stations clustered close together on Connecticut Avenue just south of Manor Road.
Mario’s Lake Liberty, 8550 Connecticut, 301-986-0560, is at the southwest corner of Connecticut and Bradley. They have consistently done excellent work and often quite quickly. Ask for Shawn the general manager and, if possible, Lonnie Powell, an ASE certified master mechanic who has been there for 33 years and counting.
Down and across the street, Carroll Motor Fuels, 8505 Connecticut Avenue, 301-656-4526, is part of a local chain that acquired the area’s BP stations. Gas prices tend to be a little lower than Mario’s, but who knows?
Kensington Service Center, 3794 Howard Avenue (corner of Armory), 301-946-0777. The other gas station/garage owned by Mario Bruno (who will also custom build a sports car for you). Housed in a 1926 retro gas station looking seriously out of place in downtown Kensington.
